Matthew Craig Sanders, 57 of Graceville, Florida Passes on April 7, 2021

Matthew Craig Sanders, 57, passed away in the early morning hours of April 7, 2021 at his home in Graceville, Florida.

Matt was born in El Paso, Texas on June 29, 1963. The Sanders family relocated to Graceville in 1973. Matt graduated from Graceville High School in 1981, where he was recognized as Who’s Who Among American High Schools (which he reminded us daily). Shortly after high school, Matt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served for 4 years and 3 months as a Fuel Specialist and reached the rank of E4 Sgt. Upon his Honorable discharge, he returned to Graceville and began his career in the Florida Department of Corrections. In his 30+ years in corrections, he achieved the rank of Colonel. At the time of his passing, he was employed with GEO Group, Graceville facility.

In his off time, Matt enjoyed yard work, watching sports, spending time with his family, traveling and attending Altha Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Florence Sanders.

He is survived by his wife Winona Sanders, his daughter Meagan Sanders, granddaughter Harper Sanders, all of Graceville; two brothers Michael Sanders (Candia) of New Albin, IA, Holt Sanders (Cheryl), Tallahassee, FL, nieces and nephews Cody Sanders, Marshall Sanders, Celeste Sanders, Zachary Sanders, Jordan Sanders and Garrett Sanders.

A Celebration of His Life will be 2 p.m. (CDT), Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Altha Church of God with Bro. Allan Nichols officiating, James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

Family will receive friends at the church Monday, 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.
