Dave Galloway became a teacher in 2007 at age 50, after moving to Jackson County, Florida, where his wife had roots.
As a young man, he spent three years in the Army, followed by a dozen years in the Florida National Guard.
Galloway worked for many years in water utilities in West Palm Beach, where he was a leader in a non-education union local.
Then in 1998 came the move to North Florida, where he went back to school to prepare for the career he had wanted when he left the Army in 1977- teaching.
“My only regret about teaching is not getting to the dance sooner.”
Galloway joined the Jackson County Education Association in 2007, on the day he got his classroom, and was elected president in 2011.
He announced his retirement on Thursday, May 6, 2021, as he also announce his bid for political office as District 5 School Board Member.
Dave says, ‘I’m running for this position to continue serving Jackson County’s Students and communities, to bring a classroom perspective to the boardroom, to engage and work with the County Commission to bring sustainable career opportunities to Jackson County, to Bring our schools to the next level of academic success and continue moving them forward and to build a bigger Jackson County presence in Tallahassee’.
