Washington County, Florida has discussed making available to all citizens of the County a reliable, affordable, secure broadband internet service for several years, and this week some of that promise has come to fruition.

On Tuesday, May 11 the Board of County Commissioners for the county of Washington met to approve 16 sites for potential broadband tower placement in Washington County.

WildStar Networks, provider of internet service in nearby Walton County, Florida has been working with Washington County officials for the past year, getting closer to a workable solution for the citizens who might be underserved.

A $1.5 million dollar grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity will help to make this happen, and many potential tower sites, as well as existing structures which might have antennas retrofitted to them have been identified, with the advent of service in sight.

Potential sites approved by the Commissioners include at Daniels Lake Drive (two sites), Gables Boulevard, Challenger Boulevard, Still Pond Road (Town of Ebro), Jackson Community Road, Spring Pond Road, Moonseed Lane (two sites), Quail Hollow Boulevard, Desalvo Road, Orange Hill Road, Ryan Lane, Brickyard Road (City of Chipley), South Boulevard, Moss Hill Road (two sites, City of Vernon).

‘Some of these sites, and possibly all of them, may not be necessary, but we want to err on the side of caution so we are shovel-ready when this trigger gets pulled’, said Washington County Commissioner Chairman On Thursday, May 13, 2021 the Town of Wausau, Florida met in workshop session with Washington County Planner Dawn McDonald to discuss the developments and were pleased at the progress.Tray Hawkins.
