Florida Panhandle Technical College in Downtown Chipley, Florida has offered a drone module as part of the Digital Video Technology Program for several years.
‘The reason we offer drone technology as a part of our larger Digital Video Technology program is that we use drones as a photo and video tool’, says Paul Goulding, FPTC Instructor, ‘and the drone allows us to increase our production value for both still and moving images’.
Digital Video Technology is an innovative program designed to foster interest in producing creative content, and photographers, video producers, social media maven and iPhone warriors are allowed to pursue their passion for just that- creativity.
As such, students in the FPTC DVT Program are given the opportunity to be certified as an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot, by studying the materials and taking the FAA test.
Recently Florida Panhandle Technical College Registrar Belinda Collins and her staff were successful in getting a new Drone Exam Review Program in place, a 15-hour course designed to prepare a student to take the FAA Part 107 Certification Exam, at a cost of only $70.
This class is open to the general public and started this week on the FPTC campus.
‘We have many inquiries about classes for drones, photography, audio production, video production and associated skillsets’, says Goulding, ‘and our Digital Video Production Program, Digital Photography Program and now the Drone Exam Review Program allow us to offer all these skillsets’.
‘If a student has an interest in a career involving drones, photography, radio, television, music, audio and video production or content creation’, says Goulding, ‘this class opens some doors, gets the creative juices flowing and demystifies the technology necessary to pursue this type of career’.
Class size is limited and for more information about this innovative offering, call Florida Panhandle Technical College at 850-638-1180 (Ext. 317) 8AM-3PM Monday through Thursday, or email paul.goulding@fptc.edu.
