Rosalind Lynette Baxley, 75 of Tallahassee, Florida Passes on May 30, 2021

Rosalind (Roz) Lynette Baxley, age 75, of Tallahassee, FL, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 30th, surrounded by her family after an extended illness.

She was born in Pompano Beach, FL, and graduated from Florida State University with an Elementary Education Degree. While attending FSU she met her husband of 54 years Jim Baxley. Upon graduation she was a dedicated schoolteacher for over 30 years at various public schools mentoring many students and making lifelong friends during her career before retiring at Desoto Trail Elementary in 1997.

Rosalind followed her husband Jim’s career as they lived in Jacksonville, Tampa, Shalimar, Ft. Walton Beach and settled in Tallahassee where they raised their children and attended church.

She had many interests that included gardening and her love of flowers. She always had a green thumb. She enjoyed traveling with family and loved her two fur babies.

Rosalind loved her church, Bradfordville First Baptist Church, and members of her Sunday School class where she assisted in teaching. She served faithfully for many years on the Bereavement Committee and any role she was asked to do.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, James “Jake” and Mary Bland, older brother, James Clyde Bland Jr.

She leaves behind and will be dearly missed by her husband Jim Baxley, sister Patricia Renes of Tallahassee, son, Darren Baxley and wife Kim, and grandchildren Lauren, Sydney, Kendall and Jordan of Gainesville, daughter Melissa Frederick and husband Jimmy and grandchildren Savanah, Will, Hunter and Maddi of Tallahassee, many beloved sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

The family welcomes visitation at Independent Funeral Home in Quincy on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 4th, at 11 am at Roselawn Cemetery, 843 Piedmont Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to Bradfordville First Baptist Church, Tallahassee.

The family wishes to thank Visiting Angels, Big Bend Hospice and all the wonderful healthcare professionals that cared for her during her illness.
