The City of DeFuniak Springs is upgrading the tennis courts in the historic district at Clay and Plateau Streets. The courts will be closed until the week of July 20.
The $30,860 project began May 10 at the request of City Councilman Kevin Crystal.
“These are the only tennis courts in the City limits,” says City Councilman Kevin Crystal. “I think it’s important that the city keep up its public amenities.
By doing so, it allows our citizens to have various options for recreation. Everyone is aware that our community is growing, and it is incumbent upon us as city leaders to make sure that our quality of life increases as this growth occurs.
I want to give a special thanks to Mr. Stanley Donald and Mrs. Jenny Barton for reaching out to me and making the city aware of the need for the repairs and upgrades.”
Pine tree roots and years of surface cracking and crumbling have caused the tennis courts to require needed repairs.
Much of the surface of the courts have been demolished with new base rock installed and packed down for resurfacing. Striping and new nets will also be installed by the completion of the project.
The City has contracted with Premier Surface Solutions in Tallahassee to complete the tennis courts resurfacing project.
