Governor Ron DeSantis says Florida is joining Texas and Arizona in taking action to help secure the southern border.
DeSantis held a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
“I’m proud to announce that Florida is stepping up to help the effort and to protect our residents from the harms caused by open borders,” DeSantis said in an announcement on Twitter.
The plan involves sending law enforcement officers from the state to the southern border.
DeSantis said that securing the southern border will help make Florida safer — specifically when it comes to meth and other drugs coming across the border and eventually into Florida.
Last week, the governors of Texas and Arizona called on their counterparts in other states to send law enforcement to the border to help stem the crisis at the southern border that has overwhelmed officials and border states.
