On the date of June 23, 2021, the Chipley Police Department received several tips regarding possible narcotics being stored in a vehicle on the City of Chipley property.
Officers and a K-9 unit responded to the area and conducted a K-9 sniff of a row of cars on the property. Following an alert for the odor of narcotics,
Officers contacted the vehicle owner, who was identified as Johnaterris Smith, 22, Campbellton Florida, officers explained the situation to Smith and conduct a probable cause search of his vehicle. The search conducted revealed the presence of marijuana and a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.
A record search discovered that Smith is a convicted felon and is currently on State Probation for weapons and drug charges. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was booked on the following charges:
Possession of Marijuana less than 20 grams
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of a Weapon by a convicted felon
