Washington County, Florida Emergency Operations Center Advises of Traffic Disruptions on State Roads During July 4 Holiday

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Washington County as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

In preparation for the Independence Day holiday weekend, there will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on state roads beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, July 2, and ending 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 5.

Washington County:

  • Watermelon Festival Parade Downtown Chipley – State Road (S.R.) 77 between Church Avenue and U.S. 90 and on U.S. 90 from S.R. 77 to Dalton Street will be closed and traffic detoured 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26 for the annual Watermelon Festival parade.  Law enforcement will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
  • S.R. 77 (Main Street) Traffic Signal at S.R. 273 (Glenwood Avenue)- Any necessary lane closures will take place between 7 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.  Off-duty law enforcement will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
  • Routine Bridge Maintenance Washington County – Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures on the following roads as crews perform routine bridge maintenance.
    • Falling Waters Road (County Road (C.R.) 77A) over the Interstate 10 (I-10) overpass, 8 p.m. Monday, June 28 to 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 29.
    • U.S. 90 over Cypress Slough 1.3 miles east of the county line, 8 p.m. Monday, June 28 to 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 29.
    • I-10 over Choctawhatchee River bridge, one mile west of C.R. 279, 8 p.m. Monday, June 28 to 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 29.
    • I-10 over S.R. 77, 2.5 miles south of U.S. 90, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 29 through Wednesday, June 30.
    • I-10 over C.R. 279, one mile east of the Choctawhatchee River, 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1 to 4 a.m. Friday, July 2.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
