On June 26, 2021, a deputy attempted to stop a white Chevy Impala on Hwy 179 at Hathaway Mill Rd. The vehicle stopped and as the deputy approached the vehicle took off.
A pursuit was initiated by the deputy that continued North on Hwy 179 onto Pollard Harris Rd. The pursuit continued down John Marsh Rd to Hwy 177-A where they turned north.
The suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn 2-3 times. Once the vehicle rested upright the driver who was later identified as John Jared Mixon exited the vehicle and ran into the woods.
After a short foot pursuit, the deputy was able to take Mixon into custody. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Jazmin Miller from Graceville, a warrant check revealed that Miller had an active warrant out of Washington County.
EMS responded and transported Mixon to hospital in Dothan due to the vehicle damage and Mixon complaining of chest pains. Miller was transported to DMH to be checked out due to her being pregnant.
Once cleared, Miller was transported to the Holmes County Jail.
Mixon faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude, driving while license revoked and reckless driving.
