Holmes County, Florida Sheriff’s Office Make Multiple Arrests on Various Charges

PONCE DE LEON – On July 20, 2021, a deputy responded to Ammons Rd in reference to a vehicle in the ditch and the driver passed out behind the wheel.
 
Upon arrival the deputy had to make entry into the vehicle, which awoke the driver who was identified as Kendrick Highsmith from Marianna. Highsmith stepped on the accelerator however the vehicle was stuck. Ems checked Highsmith out and medically cleared him.
 
The deputy talked to Highsmith and he stated he fell asleep and ran off the road and that he thought that he was in Geneva, Alabama. The deputy continued to investigate and was able to locate a glass meth pipe in Highsmith’s pocket. Highsmith stated that he had just bought his drugs and they were in the car.
 
The deputy was able to locate over 30 grams of methamphetamine along with a small amount of marijuana. Highsmith was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
 
PONCE DE LEON – On July 16, 2021, A deputy stopped a F150 for expired tag on Hwy 81 in Ponce de Leon. The driver was identified as Jackie Edwards from Pensacola. Edwards stated to the deputy that he did not have a license.
 
A computer check revealed this to be true and that Edwards had warrants out of Santa Rosa and Escambia counties.
 
Edwards stated to the deputy that he had marijuana in the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed marijuana as well as methamphetamine and meth pipes in the vehicle.
 
Edwards was arrested and charged with driving while license suspended, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as the out of county warrants.
 
PROSPERITY – On July 19, 2021, a deputy responded to an address on Mixon Rd in reference to Raymond Mapel Jr who had active felony warrants on him.
 
Upon arrival contact was made with Mapel who was immediately taken into custody. Mapel requested to put a pair of jeans on before going to jail and the deputy grabbed the jeans and searched them and located a bag of methamphetamine and Xanax pills in the pocket.
 
Mapel was charged with the warrants plus possession of methamphetamine, and possession of controlled substance Xanax.
 
BETHLEHEM – On July 13, 2021, a deputy stopped a GMC truck on Hwy 2.
 
While talking to the passenger who was identified as Starla Sellers of Bonifay, the deputy could smell an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. When the deputy asked Sellers to step out of the truck he observed a plastic bag of marijuana in plain view.
 
A probable cause search of the truck revealed a pink purse in the floorboard that contained a meth pipe along with a small plastic bag containing meth.
 
Sellers who was out on bond from a previous case was arrested and charged with possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.
