By | July 23, 2021
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has been involved in an ongoing investigation into the multiple thefts of catalytic converters in Jackson County.

In June 2021, a car dealership in Marianna had a number of catalytic convertors stolen from vehicles located on the property.

Freddie Jones of Marianna has been arrested in connection with the incident, and is the first apprehension made related to the investigation.

JCSO learned that within 48 hours of the theft at the car dealership, Jones had travelled out of state and sold nine catalytic convertors that matched the exact makes and models of the vehicles that the catalytic convertors were taken from.

He was later located at the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he was being held on unrelated charges. Jones was interviewed and admitted to his involvement in the theft of the catalytic converters, and is being charged with Grand Theft.

The investigation into the rash of catalytic convertor thefts is ongoing and other suspects are being sought at this time.

Sheriff Edenfield would like to encourage the community to notify law enforcement if they have any information pertaining to theft of catalytic converters or similar incidents.

You can do so anonymously through Chipola Crime Stoppers at 850-526-5000 or by contacting JCSO at 850-482-9624.
