Mildred Wayne (Allen) Brown, 87, passed on to her eternal reward with Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. She died from complications arising from a recent fall and her already existing heart and kidney diseases. She was born in Pantego, NC on August 12, 1933, the youngest of seven children of William Elden and Ina Allen. After her graduation from Pantego High School, she took a position as a billing clerk for Southern Bell Telephone in Richmond, VA. She married Norman V. Brown on June 29, 1954, and they enjoyed fifty-seven years of life together until his passing in March 2012.
She was the mother of four children, Allen, Les, William, and Melinda, and she dearly loved each one. As a wife and mother, she provided a comfortable and godly home life for her family in over a dozen different places. She served faithfully in many churches as a Sunday School teacher and leader of women’s groups.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling across our nation in their motorhome and seeing much of the splendor of God’s creation. Together they owned and operated the Northwest Florida Campground in Chipley, FL, where they enjoyed meeting people from all over the United States and hosting numerous gospel music and bluegrass events. The last years of their life together were spent on a ten-acre ranch near Bonifay, FL. She loved the long sandy lane to the house with its many azaleas, camellias, and roses.
Her children will miss her wry smiles and dry sense-of-humor. They rejoice in knowing she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and has been called home to be with Him.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth and Lorine and three brothers, Arnold, Nelson, and Frank.
Mildred is survived by three sons, Allen Brown and wife Kathy of Kernersville, NC, Les Brown and wife Missy of Chipley, FL, and William Brown and wife Becky of Moss Point, MS; one daughter, Melinda Gail Brown-Robinson of Graceville, FL; one brother, Ronald Allen of Pantego, NC; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bonifay Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her eight grandsons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM at Peel Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Tri State Christian Camps, 100 Christian Camp Drive, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433.
