Fred Weakens, Still Has Potential for Winds and Rains, Tornado Activity for Florida Panhandle

By | August 15, 2021

While the remnants of Fred are disorganized Saturday evening, the system looks to reorganize into a tropical storm on Sunday, moving towards the Florida Panhandle.

There may be an opportunity for strengthening before landfall according to the latest computer model data, bringing gusty winds to the coast and heavy rainfall inland, especially on Monday.

Here’s one computer model projection for Monday afternoon.

Prepare for a rainy Monday, perhaps several inches in the Panhandle and a few inches into Southeast Alabama.

We’ll have to monitor the potential tornado threat east of the center, depending on where the system makes landfall and the strength.

Lots of uncertainties remain, but we should have more clarity later Sunday.
