Tropical Storm Fred Update Calls for Flash Flood Warnings for Florida Panhandle, Tropical Storm Warnings East to Steinhachee River

Tropical Storm Fred Update Noon CST on Monday, August 16, 2021.

The most notable change is the expansion of Tropical Storm Warnings east to Steinhatchee River.

Impacts will continue to expand across the area this afternoon as Fred moves inland.

With 4-6 inches already reported in some areas, the continued rainfall today could lead to flash flooding.

A Flash Flood Watch is already in effect for much of the Florida Big Bend, Panhandle, SE AL, and SW GA.

Strong winds associated with Fred will be possible today along with a the potential for a few Tornadoes.

The wind combined with the amount of rainfall expected will likely lead to some downed trees and power outages across the area.

Fred is currently moving north at 9 mph and has a minimum central pressure of about 994mb. Some strengthening is possible before landfall.

Fred is expected to bring a dangerous storm surge and heavy rains to the Florida panhandle and Big Bend, and the tropical storm warning has been extended to eastward to the Steinhatchee River.

Fred is expected to produce 4 to 8 inches of rain in the Panhandle with isolated maximum storm totals of 12 inches are expected.

Tornadoes are possible today and tonight across parts of the Florida Panhandle, southwest Georgia, and southeast Alabama.
