The City of Vernon is applying for Rebuild Florida General Infrastructure Repair Program funding in the amount of one million six hundred seventy-four thousand six hundred twenty-two dollars ($1,674,622.00 provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist the State of Florida in recovering from the effects of Hurricane Michael the 2018 Storm Event. This funding will be administered by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and can only be used for selected activities that are directly related to the disaster or for disaster mitigation. Activities that are typically eligible for funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program are eligible projects if no other funding is available to meet the need. Applications are due in DEO no later than September 17, 2021.
The City of Vernon intends to submit one application which will install City-Wide updates to the City’s Sanitary Sewer system including the installation of emergency electrical generators at all ten (10) Sanitary Sewer Lift Stations along with the acquisition of necessary property easements on which to install generators not having sufficient property for the installation. The City-wide updates to the City’s Sanitary Sewer system will also include the installation of a SCADA communications system at all ten (10) Sanitary Sewer Lift Stations. The project will also relocate a Sanitary Sewer Force-main Line that has been overflowing during significant storm events and rehabilitate and/or replace three manholes associated with the Sewer Main relocation.
