By | August 24, 2021

On August 20, 2021, in the early morning hours, Heaven rejoiced as Jack Mortz, entered into his eternal rest. He fought the good fight, finished his race, and our merciful Father has delivered him from this treacherous world.

Jack was born June 7, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts to John Sr and Agnes “Nissi” Mortz. He is preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, Theresa Mortz, and Pamela Mortz Brown (Lenny), a son-in-law Steve Retherford, Father-in-law Coonie Cannon, and many friends.

Jack married Phyliss Cannon, the girl he’d loved his whole life, on Sept 2, 1967, and they’d mark their 54th wedding anniversary in a few short days.

His memory is carried by his loving wife, Phyliss Mortz, daughters, Heather Mortz Retherford Webb (Charlie), Kelly Keefe (Dennis), Michelle Nowalinski (Rick), and Lanae Mortz (Brett). Through them came the true joy of his life… his grandchildren. He has a total of 11 grandchildren- Jaime, Kyle, Kayley, Kinsey, Brandon, Ryan, Emalee, Nick, Jaida, Cody (Mari), and 3 great-grandchildren Railynn, Scarlett, and one whom he will know before we do, to be named Jacklyn (due late Sept). Also, left to cherish his memory is his sister, Annette Mortz Mitchell (Ron), mother-in-law, Helen Cannon, Billy Smith (Betty), a cousin who was more like a brother and Roxie, his beloved dog.

To know Jack was to love him. He never met a stranger but when he did, they usually parted as friends. He was a call or text away for any in need and imparted his wisdom to all who inquired of him.

Jack loved cars. He raced as a young father, but worked on and rebuilt them from his early youth, later owning an auto body shop. He knew his way around most tools and learned many skill sets, properly earning him the title the “Jack” of all trades. He was truly a see a need, fill a need kind of man.

Jack retired from Bay Dodge Body Shop in December 2016 and worked harder than ever after that, but he made time to fish and loved his little community of Howard Creek.

Jack was easy to love and will be hard to forget. The stories we will tell of him will keep his memory alive for many years.

Due to Covid, the family is holding a private funeral service on Thursday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. that will be live streamed for your ‘virtual’ attendance, on www.facebook.com/jack.mortz
