Myrtle Mae Matthews, 79 of Chipley, Florida Passes on August 24, 2021 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital

Myrtle Mae Matthews, 79 of Chipley, went home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2021 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Florida.

Myrtle was born on February 12, 1942 in Chipley, Florida to Gerald Sasser and Mary Baker. A lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle, Myrtle worked as a Secretary for the Washington County Vocational School for over 29 years. She was a member of Lovewood Free Will Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: Gerald and Mary Sasser; beloved husband: Calvin Henry Matthews; brother: David Sasser; sister: Minnie Richter.

She is survived by her sons: Bill Matthews (Tony Phillips) of Sevierville, Tennessee, Adrian Matthews of Chipley, Florida; daughters: Renee’ Carlisle (Michael) of Cottondale, Florida, Pam Baxter (Theo) of Chipley, Florida; brothers: Marvin Sasser (Gloria) of San Antonio, Texas, Millard Sasser (Margie) of Clovis, California; sisters: Mary Elizabeth Pettis of Crestview, Florida, Martha Wilkin of Chipley, Florida, Mammie Hayes (Tommy) of Chipley, Florida, Mavis Barfield (Joe) of Freeport, Florida, Mildred Hendrix (Billy) of Wausau, Florida; grandchildren: John Baxter (Savannah), Katie Butler (Ken), Lisa Porter( Eddie), Greg Carlisle (Kaleisa); great grandchildren: Justin Carlisle (Keira), Cameron Lysaar Porter, Caden Lysaar Porter, Jaxson Butler, and Gabe Carlisle.

Graveside funeral service will be held 10AM Friday, August 27, 2021 at Lovewood Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottondale, Florida with Rev. Mike Williamson and Rev. Ernie Dupree officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
