Preliminary construction activities will start this week on Orange Hill Road (County Road 273) at the Hard Labor Creek Bridge in Washington County. Crews will begin erosion control procedures and prepare to clear trees and shrubs for the bridge replacement. Workers will then begin drainage improvements and constructing the temporary bridge.
The new bridge will be approximately 14-feet wider than the existing structure and will be built along the existing alignment. Work will include drainage improvements and the installation of new guardrail. Bridge approaches will be resurfaced to provide a smooth transition and the Gilberts Mill Road intersection will be realigned.
Traffic will be transitioned onto a temporary bridge during construction. There will be weight restrictions on the temporary bridge with vehicles weighing over 90,000 pounds and cranes prohibited. Improvements are anticipated to be complete in fall 2022.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
