Urban Meyer’s tenure in Jacksonville lasted much shorter than anyone anticipated.
The Jaguars fired Meyer overnight after less than one year at the helm.
“After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban’s tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone.” owner Shad Khan said. “I informed Urban of the change this evening. As I stated in October, regaining our trust and respect was essential. Regrettably, it did not happen.”
It’s been an awful year for Meyer, and the latest troubling report must have been the last straw. Former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo accused Meyer of kicking him during the preseason.
“I’m in a lunge position. Left leg forward, right leg back,” Lambo said. “… Urban Meyer, while I’m in that stretch position, comes up to me and says, ‘Hey Dips–t, make your f–king kicks!’ And kicks me in the leg.”
Earlier this year, Meyer was also involved in a questionable bar video that went viral. Off-the-field distractions added up, and Jaguars ownership simply couldn’t move forward with Meyer as the head coach.
The Jaguars are currently 2-11 in the AFC South, and the horrific development of top pick Trevor Lawrence has been a huge topic.
Will Urban Meyer coach again?
