Sheila May Johns, 81, went home to be with Jesus in the morning hours on January 3, 2022.

Sheila was born in Raynham, Massachusetts on August 28, 1940, to Mildred and Milton Sherman. Growing up outside of Boston allowed God to bring her into the path of her husband of 61 years, Rev. Thomas Johns. After bringing him back to his ship after a shore duty he promised her a white horse and that he was going to marry her one day (and of course he did because she was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on). After getting married, surviving multiple tours in Korea and Vietnam, and 4 beautiful babies they relocated to Florida, where they remained until her passing.

Sheila was a firm believer in Christ. She took every opportunity to share Gods love with others not only through teaching others but for the love and kindness she showed everyone who came in contact with her. She was an active member of West Bay Baptist Church and loved her pastor and church family. She always had a smile on her face when she talked about heaven and her mansion in the sky. She was never afraid to go when it was her time because she knew without a doubt she was going to heaven. Sheila loved to fish and never passed up an opportunity. She loved airplanes, in fact she would go out of her way to drive by airports to watch planes land and take off. One of her favorite things about Florida was watching what she called “God’s painting”, the sunrises and sunsets, and on the morning of her passing there was the most vivid sunrise that we know she enjoyed helping him paint. The thing Sheila was most proud of was her family. She loved spending time with her 4 children, 7 granddaughters and 13 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Milton and Mildred Sherman, her sister Caroline Wagner, and two brothers Robert and Wallace Sherman. Those left waiting to join her in her mansion in the sky are her husband Rev. Thomas R. Johns, one sister Lois Olex. Her four children: Sheila Hayes (Leland “Shorty” Hayes), Thomas John, Lois Krans (Roger Krans), and Deborah Gilbert. Her 7 grandchildren and 13 Great grandchildren: Amanda Winters (Ryan Winters, Easton, Kameron, and Emilia May), Savanah O’Neal (Rob O’Neal, Connor, Reagan), Morgan Phillips (Steven Phillips, Grayson) Melody Krans (Tonks), Charlotte Chavira (Brandon Chavira, Ali, Ryan, Luke), Taylor Lilly (Ronan), Riley Gilbert (Austin, Ana Claire, Lilly).

A Celebration of Life will be held 10 AM Saturday, January 8, 2022 at West Bay Baptist Church in Panama City Beach with Pastor Roger Krans officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center in the Emergency Department and ICU for the living and care that they gave Sheila when she was there, especially Staci, Nancy, Jamie, Brianna and Faith.
