Washington County, Florida Emergency Operations Advises of Traffic Interruptions During Holidays

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Holmes and Washington counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

In preparation for the Independence Day holiday weekend, there will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on major state roads beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, July 1, and ending 11:59 p.m. Monday, July 4.

Washington County:

  • State Road (S.R.) 79 City of Vernon 4th July Parade from Court Avenue to Sapp Avenue- S.R. 79 will be closed from Court Avenue to Sapp Avenue, Saturday, July 2 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the 4th of July parade.  Law enforcement will be on site to assist with traffic control.
  • S.R. 77 Resurfacing from Brickyard Road to South Boulevard – Drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures and shifts during sidewalk construction as equipment and workers enter and exit the roadway.
  • S.R. 77 Widening from Bay County Line to north of County Road 279 (Moss Hill Road) – S.R. 77 Park and Ride area is relocating from just south of the Bay County line to Crystal Lake Drive in Washington County beginning 8 a.m. Friday, July 8. The old Park and Ride area will permanently close at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9. Message boards are in place to notify motorists of the new location.

Holmes County:

  • Joe White Road Bridge Replacement over Unnamed Creek – Joe White Road will be closed to through traffic and a detour will be in place utilizing Bonifay Chipley Road and South Hubbard Street.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
