Alma Iris Owens Land, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2022, in the long-term care unit at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Florida.

Iris was born at Orange Hill, Washington County, Florida, on September 8, 1930, to John Wesley and Cora Dee Atwell Owens.

She was a longtime resident of Washington County and a member of Bonnet Pond Community Church. She will be remembered as a woman who excelled in all things: as a mother and grandmother, as a cook without equal, as a hard worker who maintained a job outside the home well into her 70s, as a gardener, and as a wonderful Christian example.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers John D Owens, Julian Owens, Newman Owens, Roland Owens, Doris Owens and by her son Wayne Land.

She is survived by two sons: Larry Land (Jeanette) and Thomas Land both of Vernon; two daughters: Sally Brock of Vernon and Susan Steverson (Perry) of Holmes County; one sister Shirley Ramer (Joel) of Gap Pond; one daughter-in-law Melissa Hilliard of Mobile, Alabama; nine grandchildren: Kevin Land and wife Mechelle, Alecia Land, Alice Land, Christopher Land and wife Heather, Billy Land, Tess Land, Garrett Land, Lana Bush, and Nick Steverson; four great-grandchildren. The family also wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff on the third floor of the hospital, especially Angela, April, Brooke, Danielle, Deanna, Jasmine, Kim, Sarah Grace, Simona, Treva, and Wendi. Thank you not only for the care you gave but also for the concern and love you showed to Iris and to her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022, at Bonnet Pond Community Church with Reverend Shawn Justice officiating.

Interment will follow in Wausau Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service.
