Florida Guardian ad Litem Managing Attorney Amy Thome was assigned to a case involving a teenager who ran away from his short-term placement.
He was transported to a group care facility when he was located, but his personal property was not.
The teen advised that he was missing a large duffel bag of clothing and other personal effects that totaled approximately $400 in value.
The teen’s Guardian ad Litem Attorney, Amy, verified the teen’s account with the previous care provider and approached the local community-based care agency to locate the missing items or replace them.
The agency ultimately responded by offering to replace the items using money from the teen’s master trust account.
Amy did not view this as a satisfactory resolution and took the matter up in court.
As a result, the community-based care agency was ordered to replace the items lost in transit at the agency’s cost.
Thank you, Amy, for caring and going above and beyond to ensure the teen in foster care was not forgotten and could replace his personal belongings.
