A record-breaking number of entrants enjoyed the 69th Annual Cubmobile Derby on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan, Alabama, as seen in Part 2 of these photos by Paul Goulding Photography.
Trophies and cash prizes are awarded in this event, a totally volunteer-driven opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy creativity, family time, good sportsmanship, competition and fellowship.
This year a record-breaking 87 entries competed in the race, a double-elimination side-by-side race administered by David Butterfield, the Peanut Festival Fairground Manager for the facility and who was accompanied by his father, daughter and grandson- truly a family affair.
In addition, Butterfield was joined by his board of directors for the festival, who work the event alongside a large group of dedicated volunteers, many of whom have been involved with the event for decades.
The Cubmobile Derby is designed as an adult-child program, with an adult expected to help in the construction of the car.
This event is intended to be a learning experience and provide both adult and child the opportunity to form confidence in one another, while demonstrating the importance of sportsmanship and individual pride.
