June H. Blankenship Johns, age 91, of Chipley, Florida, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, December 16, 2022, surrounded by love, laughter, and her girls.
She was born on April 1, 1931, in Jackson, Kentucky to the late Harlan and Mattie Risner Holbrook.
June was a faithful Christian and a member of the Orange Hill United Methodist Church where she served with her late husband for many years.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, devoted husband, Marion Johns, son Michael Eugene Blankenship, grandson Clayton Blankenship, and great-grandchildren Gillian Nicole Guettler and Julian Limardo.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie Day, daughter-in-law Mary Lee Blankenship, her sister-in-law Rose Holbrook, sons Timothy Blankenship and David Blankenship, grandchildren April Day Williams, Michelle Blankenship Jordan (Daniel), Stephanie Blankenship, Summer Day Guettler (Justin), Ginger Leigh, Charles Blankenship, Bailey Blankenship, Emma Blankenship, and Mitch Blankenship, great-grandchildren Justin Limardo, Ryan Limardo, Grace Blankenship O’Brien (Pat), Lucas Tagert, Athan Guettler, Abigail Hagy, Davis Williams, Lily Tagert, Collin Williams, and Levi Guettler, and great-great-granddaughter Annabelle O’Brien.
June graduated from Hazel Green Academy in Hazel Green Kentucky. After moving to Chipley with her family in 1965, June began her trailblazing 30-year career as the first female real estate broker in Washington County. Following her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering in her community. While her time spent with Habitat for Humanity of Washington County, Wausau Garden Club, and Washington County Council on Aging was a highlight of this period in her life, it did not compare to the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She was a loving and devoted grandmother who spent many hours at band concerts, plays, talent shows, and football games supporting her grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family for her humor, boldness, and courage, but most importantly for being their Nanny.
Graveside service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Orange Hill Methodist Cemetery in Chipley, Florida with Bro. Wesley Syfrett officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
