If the bill passes, concealed carry of a firearm without a permit will be allowed, a measure Florida House Speaker Paul Renner deems important in today‘s divided political climate.
Florida lawmakers have fulfilled their promise to introduce “Constitutional Carry“ legislation, House Bill 543, which would allow permitless concealed carry of firearms.
Rep. Chuck Brannan (R–Lake City) proposed a bill, which was accompanied by companion legislation written by state Sen. Jay Collins (R–Tampa). Gov. Ron DeSantis voiced his commitment to the bill‘s passage in December and urged state lawmakers to propose it.
Under the proposed bill, Floridians 21 and older would no longer need to apply for a license for concealed carry, as they are already allowed to purchase firearms without a state application, aside from federal background check requirements.
The NRA thanked Gov. Ron DeSantis for his “steadfast leadership” on the proposed bill that would allow concealed carry of firearms without a permit in Florida, making it the 26th state to do so. They called it a “fundamental right.”
