By | February 5, 2023
On Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a reckless driver on Highway 90 in Grand Ridge.

The caller said a red Chevrolet pickup truck was driving all over the road and crossing the median. A deputy was in the area and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver, Michael Duane Owens, did not stop and continued traveling east on Highway 90 towards Sneads.

Owens then began driving east in the westbound lanes, causing on-coming vehicles to leave the road to avoid a crash.

The assistance of the Sneads Police Department was requested, and they were able to successfully deploy stop-sticks.

Owens continued to flee while his tires were flat for about half a mile, but he eventually got stuck in a ditch.

Owens was removed from the vehicle and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol.

Michael Duane Owens was arrested and is being charged with Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement with Wanton Disregard for the Safety of the Public and Driving Under the Influence.

Thankfully, no one was hurt during this incident.

Sheriff Edenfield would like to thank the Sneads Police Department for their assistance in stopping Owens.
