An animal cruelty report on Ambassador Drive, Sunny Hills, lands one in jail on multiple charges.
On February 6, 2023, deputies arrive on scene and make contact with the property owner who stated she had owned the property on Ambassador Drive for years but had not visited the property in over a year.
The owner and deputies witnessed several dogs chained that appeared to be malnourished and had no access to water.
Deputies attempted to make contact with the adjoined property owner, 64-year-old, Johnny Lee Washington but was unsuccessful.
Animal control was contacted in an attempt to remove the animals.
While waiting for ACO to arrive, Washington returns to his property and makes contact with deputies who inform him he was trespassing on the adjacent property.
Washington agreed and stated all he wanted to do is remove his dogs from her property.
Due to Washington trespassing, housing dogs on someone else’s property and the condition of dogs discovered, a search warrant was applied for and granted for Washington’s residence where further investigation resulted in more than 30 dogs being located on 3 different adjoining properties.
Washington was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail on charges of trespassing, 27 counts of animal cruelty, 1 aggravated animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
All dogs are being evaluated for their health and well-being. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Sheriff Crews continues to urge the public to inform law enforcement of any suspicious activity they may encounter.
