A Chipley, FL man is facing felony battery charges on a law enforcement officer after an argument erupted in a local convenience store.
On March 25th, at approximately 12 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies respond to an agency assist with CPD in reference to an intoxicated and belligerent man at a local convenience store.
As the deputies entered the store, they observe a male subject not responding to commands and resisting the officer.
The male subject later identified as, 36-year-old, Dustin Thomas Bateman, was striking a display near the counter and became extremely more aggressive.
Deputies were unsuccessful in controlling Bateman and a department issued taser was deployed. Bateman refused to cooperate with deputies and aggressively kicked the officer in the shin as he was being escorted to the patrol car.
Further investigation revealed that Bateman was angry over the clerk refusing to sell him more alcohol.
Bateman was arrested and transported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and charged with resisting an officer with violence, battery on an officer and disorderly intoxication in a public place causing a disturbance.
