New Omicron Subvariant Spreading Joy in Florida with Conjunctivitis as Symptom

By | April 25, 2023

Conjunctivitis is a word most people cannot pronounce, let alone know how to treat, but it is quickly becoming a potential symptom of a new Omicron Subvariant Virus spreading in Florida,

Health officials advise people to be aware of other common COVID19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing, and to practice social distancing, wear a face mask, and wash their hands frequently.

They suggest that if someone is experiencing eye irritation or redness, they should check with a healthcare provider to rule out other causes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is actively monitoring the new variant of SARSCoV2, known as XBB.1.16 or Arcturus.

While the variant has been identified in multiple states, Florida appears to have the highest prevalence, with an estimated 5% of new COVID cases attributed to the variant.

Early studies indicate that the Arcturus variant may be more contagious than other subvariants.

Additionally, doctors in Florida have reported a correlation between the variant and an increase in red, itchy eyes.

Additional research is being conducted to further understand the possible link between the variant and the eye symptom.

The CDC is continuing to analyze data from Florida and other states to further understand the spread of the Arcturus variant and its implications for the COVID19 pandemic.

In the meantime, health experts recommend that people continue to practice the same safety measures, such as wearing a face mask and maintaining social distance.
