Washington County, Florida Emergency Management Advises of Severe Weather on Thursday & Friday, April 27 & 28, 2023

A few strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon and evening with gusty winds and hail the primary threats. Another, more widespread round of severe weather is forecast Thursday through Friday with tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall all possible.

Overview:

Several rounds of severe weather will be possible over the next few days as a front gradually approaches the area. 

Today (Wednesday)

  • Isolated to scattered storms this afternoon and evening, some of which may be strong to severe
  • Primary threats are gusty winds and hail
  • Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather

Thursday

  • A large line of strong to severe thunderstorms is forecast to push through the area Thursday afternoon through the overnight hours Thursday night
  • Primary threats include tornadoes, damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall
  • Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather 
  • Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall
  • Widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are possible with isolated higher amounts

Friday

  • Storms may redevelop just ahead of the approaching front Friday afternoon, although confidence is lower than Thursday
  • Primary threats are damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall
  • Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather
