Over 2,000 people are registered and are expected to compete in the upcoming 2023 Ironman, which includes a 2.1-mile swim, a 56-mile bike excursion and a 13.1-mile road race.
This event has attracted athletes from around the world since it’s inception in the 1990’s, and had contributed a fair amount of confusion to vehicle traffic in Panama City Beach and surrounding areas.
Some traffic detours are expected, according to event organizers, as the triathalon event takes place on the week of May 13, 2023.
The swim portion of the race is held in the Gulf of Mexico adjacent to the start-finish line, while the bike and run portions will occur on city streets, much to the dismay of residents.
Here is the list of roads that will experience delays during the run portion of the event:
- Middle Beach Road near Edgewater Beach Resort exit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Middle Beach Road near Grand Panama from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Middle Beach Road near Alf Coleman Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Middle Beach Road near Clara Avenue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Front Beach Road near Dogwood Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Front Beach Road near Clara Avenue from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Front Beach Road near Alf Coleman Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Front Beach Road near Grand Panama from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Front Beach Road near Richard Jackson Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Richard Jackson Boulevard near Edgewater Beach Resort entrance from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
