Clifford Gary Kent 80, of Chipley, Florida went home to be the Lord on May 22, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Gary was born on February 16, 1943, in Chipley, Florida to Will Kent and Annie Mae (Hayes). A lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle, he was a founding member of New Orange Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Trustee.
Gary held many occupations, often at the same time, including being a Carpenter, Row Crop and Dairy Farming, a State Licensed Contractor, and also running a sawmill and logging operation. His work ethic was matched only by his kind heartedness.
Gary was reliable, selfless, and someone the community could call on in a time of need. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Will and Annie Mae Kent; beloved wife: Alberta Kent; brother: Donald Kent and wife Naomi; nephews: Mark Kent , Greg Malloy; great nephew Zac Harris; brothers-in-law: Gerald Johnson, Ray Hammock.
He is survived by his son: Wayne Kent (Michelle) of Chipley, Florida; daughter: Sandra Kent Gromelski (Chris) of Chipley, Florida; sisters: Eleanor Johnson of Graceville, Florida, Sue Griner (Mike) of Mossy Head, Florida; nieces: Donna Joe Kent of Chipley, Florida, Deidra Pettis (Ronald) of Chipley, Florida; nephews: Tony Johnson, Terry Johnson; sisters-in-law: Brenda Foxworth (Willie) of Graceville, Florida, Linda Cain (Ferrel) of Chipley, Florida; grandchildren: Chelsea Anderson (Jeffrey) and their children Daxter and Ally-Claire Anderson, Lee Whatley (Desley), Emily Rayanna Kent and her son Tyson Gregory Hamilton, Sierra Hammock Kent and her children Sophia Kent, Darain Kent, and Joel Kent, and many great nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to his niece Donna Joe for faithfully taking care of him during his illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30AM Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at New Orange Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida with Bro. Russell Carlisle and Bro. Caleb Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with a lunch to follow in the church fellowship hall. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 10-10:30AM Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at New Orange Baptist Church.
