A Greensboro, NC man is in custody in Washington County on several felony charges stemming from a suspicious person call.
On May 24th, Washington County Telecommunications Center received a call in reference to a suspicious person and vehicle near Potter Springs Rd. and State Rd. 79.
Deputies enroute to the area witness a vehicle matching the description North on 79 near Miller’s Ferry Rd. experiencing vehicle problems.
Deputies made contact with the driver, identified as 62-year-old Richard Hamilton Rodgers.
Information received after a brief check of Rodgers’ driver’s license and license plate of the vehicle revealed Rodgers was currently on probation out of Bay County for burglary of motor vehicles and the vehicle was not registered to Rodgers.
Rodgers created an elaborate story to justify his possession of the vehicle. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and stated the vehicle had been stolen.
A search of the vehicle resulted in deputies locating several stolen items. After further investigation, deputies reveal two other vehicles were burglarized at the same location in Ebro where Rodgers originally stole the vehicle from.
Rodgers was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft of a firearm, 2 counts-burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, armed burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and VOP-Bay County.
All stolen items have been recovered.
