Marianna, Florida Police Department Arrest Sunland Resident for Vehicle Theft at Jackson County School Board Bus Barn on May 30, 2023

On Tuesday May 30th, 2023 at approximately 8:15am officers with the Marianna, Florida  Police Department were notified of a vehicle theft that occurred on Russell Road, future site of the Jackson County School Board Bus Barn.
 
The suspect entered a Jackson County School Board truck that had a trailer in tow.
 
Employees of the school board witnessed the theft and provided the information to law enforcement.
 
While Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were in route to assist, an officer with the Marianna Police Department observed the stolen vehicle on Jefferson Street.
 
The officer activated his lights and siren and attempted to get the vehicle to stop, however the vehicle began to flee.
 
During the pursuit, the driver attempted to make a turn, ultimately crashing into a light pole on Caledonia Street.
 
The driver began fleeing on foot from the traffic crash, towards Broad Street. Officers gave chase and were able to apprehend the subject behind a nearby business off of Caledonia Street.
 
It was later determined that the driver was Jamal Davis, a resident of Sunland.
 
Davis escaped from Sunland where he has been ordered to remain by a judge.
 
Davis stole a golf cart at Sunland and traveled to the edge of the property.
 
Davis then climbed the fence, and traveled towards the area of the new bus barn site.
 
Davis then stole the truck and trailer, fled the scene, and was later captured after a vehicle and foot pursuit.
 
Davis was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will await first appearance on the following charges:
 
• Fleeing and Attempting to Elude
• Escape from a Facility
• Resisting Arrest without Violence
• Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle
• Grand Theft (Golf Cart)
• Driving with No Valid License
• Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage
