The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a tropical storm warning for several islands in the eastern Caribbean as Tropical Storm Bret is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday or Friday.
The NHC also warned of heavy rainfall and dangerous storm surges that could cause significant damage, especially along coastal areas.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the storm’s progression.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami has reported that Tropical Storm Bret had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) at 11 p.m. on Monday as it moved west across the Atlantic at 18 mph (30 kph).
Forecasters expect the storm to strengthen over the next two days, reaching Category 1 hurricane strength of 74 mph (120 kph) by Wednesday night as it nears the Lesser Antilles.
However, due to wind shear, the storm is not expected to reach a Category 2 storm.
