The National Weather Service has issued warnings of highs in the upper 90’s to near 100, combined with increasing humidity, potentially leading to dangerous heat index values across the area this weekend and possibly into the Independence Day holiday.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for Saturday afternoon for much of the area away from the coastline and outside of the southeast Big Bend counties.
High temperatures Saturday afternoon will be in the upper 90s to near 100.
However, when combined with increasing humidity, it will feel more like 106 to 112.
While the Heat Advisory is currently only in effect for Saturday, the dangerous heat will continue possibly through Independence Day. Additional Heat Advisories could be needed as heat index values each day could be in the 106 to 112 range.
