Phone scams are increasingly becoming a nuisance and a threat to financial security for those that are on the receiving end of calls.
Washington County Sheriff, Kevin Crews, is warning residents of scammers who are presenting themselves as Florida Public Utilities-Power Company. Impersonators making the calls will claim you have an overdue power bill that needs to be paid.
During these calls, scammers have threatened to suspend or cut off your power if they do not receive the payments they are requesting.
Be advised this is a SCAM! Sheriff Crews asks that you not give them your banking information and HANG UP THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY!
“Scammers will go to great lengths to get what they want,” says Sheriff Crews.
“It is important to remain alert and to warn other family members who may be vulnerable to these calls.”
