Reports show that there were 5,294 teacher vacancies in January 2023, which was an increase from 2,219 just four years ago, in 2019.
Florida Panhandle Escambia County Public Schools say that on August 1, 2023, there are 47 job openings in that County, with classes set to start in 10 days.
The Director of Transportation for Escambia County Public Schools said last week that the district had 11 routes remaining without bus drivers and that they were actively recruiting for these positions via job fairs, billboards, and community events.
Set against the backdrop of national teacher shortages, these numbers are modest by comparison, and it will be interesting to see how the other Florida Panhandle counties fare as the start of school approaches.
