Robert Edward Palmer, 86, of Bonifay, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Cantonment, Florida.
Edward was born on July 13, 1937 in Holmes County Florida to the late Mr. Robert Ellie Palmer, and Mrs. Birlie Palmer of Slocomb, Alabama.
He grew up in Bonifay, Florida with his four sisters, and graduated from Holmes County High School in 1956.
Soon after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, LounettBowers, also of Bonifay.
The young couple moved to Tallahassee in 1960 where he began a career as a telephone technician with Centel Telephone Company, which was later purchased by Sprint.
Edward and Lounett had three children, Eddie Ray, Melanie Lynn, and Robert Gregory, all of which survive him. Edward moved to Fort Walton Beach in 1984 and retired from Sprint in 1997.
His retirement was spent lounging at his beachside condo in Destin and spending time with his many friends and family.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, boating and gardening.
Edward eventually moved to Cantonment to be near family, and as his health began to fail he moved into the Sodalis Cantonment Assisted Living Facility where he made many friends and received wonderful care from its professional and loving staff.
Also, the family wishes to thank his long-term doctor, Mark Benton, D.O. of Baptist Medical Group in Navarre for his exceptional care and friendship. Edward is survived by three of his four sisters; Geraldine White, Catherine Jenkins and husband Wadell, and Margaret Chitty and husband, Darrell; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at Bonifay First Assembly of God at 2:00 pm on August 20, 2023, and interment will follow in St. John’s Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
