Washington County Emergency Management Advises of Highway Work Over Long Holiday Weekend on September 1, 2023

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Washington and Holmes County, Florida as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

In preparation for the Labor Day holiday weekend, there will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on major state roads beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, September 1 and ending at 12 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Washington County:

  • U.S. 90 Resurfacing from State Road (S.R.) 277 (Vernon Highway) to End of Four-Lane east of Chipley – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Friday, Sept. 8 for paving operations.
  • Orange Hill Road Bridge Painting over Interstate 10 Overpass –Motorists will encounter intermittent nighttime lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Friday, Sept. 8 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities. 
  • S.R. 77 Coring Operations from South of 5th Street to South of S.R. 273 (Glenwood Ave) – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Thursday, Sept. 7 for coring operations.

Holmes County:

  • Thomas Drive Bridge Replacement over Open Creek – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Tuesday, Sept. 5 through Thursday, Sept. 7 for construction activities.
  • Tram Road Bridge Replacement over Reedy Creek and Miller Bay – Tram Road over Miller Bay is open. The detour for Tram Road over little Reedy Creek is to be in place for construction operations.

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
