Washington County, Florida Emergency Management Operations Center Issues Advisory on Weather on Thursday, September 7, 2023

By | September 7, 2023

Strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. Isolated damaging wind gusts will be the main severe concern, though frequent lightning will also come with today’s thunderstorms. There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms for all but the southeast Big Bend.

Overview:

Strong thunderstorms are expected to first develop during the early- to mid-afternoon hours along or northwest of a Panama City-to-Albany line. Once storms develop, they will move southeast, reaching Tallahassee and Valdosta during the late afternoon and early evening.

Enough instability and wind shear will exist to clump storms together into clusters. As these clusters push forward, they will bring strong and possibly damaging wind gusts. Of course, frequent lightning will also be a threat to those outdoors.

  • What:  Strong thunderstorms expected. Isolated Severe Storms Possible. Marginal Risk of severe storms (Level 1 of 5).
  • When:  This afternoon and evening
  • Where:  Storms will develop and then move southeast across the Marginal Risk area (see attached graphic). This includes most of our service area, except the southeast Big Bend region.
