On Thursday, Sept. 14, around 3 p.m., deputies received a call to assist the Cottondale Police Department with a report of shots being fired in the area of Faney Street in Cottondale.
When deputies responded, they found one victim deceased, and were told the suspect, 21-year-old Domenico Cerone Collins, had fled.
Deputies immediately established a perimeter and began searching for Collins, and deputies located him a short time later walking down a nearby road.
Collins was arrested and is being charged with an Open Count of Murder.
This is still an ongoing investigation, and more details will be released as they become available.
Sheriff Edenfield would like to commend the men and women of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Cottondale Police Department, the State Attorney’s Office of the 14th Judicial Circuit and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for their teamwork in bringing Collins to justice.
