Holmes County, Florida Commissioners, Economic Development at Odds Concerning Additional Taxation in Holmes County

By | October 2, 2023

Last week, Holmes County, Florida Economic Development Commission Director Joe Rone introduced to the Holmes County, Florida Board of County Commissioners the prospect of implementation of a one percent electricity tax on Holmes County residents.

Rone stated that the proposed tax could potentially increase to six percent over time.

Other Holmes County commissioners, however, immediately opposed this and other taxation.

Holmes County Commissioner Brandon Newson stated, ‘I will never be for more taxes placing a hardship on our residents, families and farmers electricity bills’.

Following discussion, the board did not come to a majority of consent for the measure and the discussion was tabled.
