By | October 8, 2023
On October 7, 2023, a Chipley Police Department officer was involved in a pursuit and apprehension operation involving a known subject with an active warrant.

The following events transpired during this incident:

During the early morning hours of October 7, 2023, an officer from the Chipley Police Department identified and confronted a known subject, Abidb M. Bell, 27, of Chipley, with an outstanding warrant.

The officer initiated the process to take Bell into custody, at which point he resisted arrest.

Despite Bell’s resistance, the officer managed to partially handcuff him. In an effort to gain control of the situation and ensure the safety of all parties involved, the officer deployed a Taser.

Regrettably, the Taser deployment proved ineffective, allowing Bell to break free from the officer’s grasp.

In response to Bell’s escape, the Chipley Police Department immediately called for assistance from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Together, the two agencies collaborated to establish a secure perimeter in the area.

Recognizing the need for specialized assistance, the Chipley Police Department also contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for support.

In response, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deployed a highly-trained dog team to aid in tracking the fleeing subject.

The canine unit successfully initiated a productive pursuit and eventually located Bell in a nearby residence.
Law enforcement officers promptly apprehended the suspect, bringing the incident to a safe resolution.

Bell is now in custody and faces charges related to their outstanding warrant, as well as additional charges stemming from this incident.
