Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested a convicted felon on new drug charges over the weekend.

On October 7th, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near State Rd. 79 and Joe Neel Road.

The vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Silverado with black racing stripes, is known to be owned and operated by 39-year-old Carlton Chance Harrell.

Deputies made contact with Harrell who had an outstanding warrant for VOP for Larceny out of Alachua County and a previous case here for possession of several illegal drug items.

As Harrell exited the vehicle, in plain sight, a black magnetic box was observed in the driver’s side door.

Harrell was taken into custody for the warrant and a department issued K-9 was deployed.

The K-9 gave a positive alert to narcotics inside the vehicle and a subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted.

Located inside the box were two digital scales with methamphetamine residue and a controlled substance without a prescription.

A handgun was also located inside the vehicle.

Harrell, who is a convicted felon, was placed on felony state probation in 2023 for previous drug charges.

Harrell is currently being held without bond in the Washington County Jail on the new charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
