Last-minute shoppers beware, Publix is set to shut its doors at 1,300 stores on November 23 for Thanksgiving, meaning regular customers will need to plan their holiday carefully.
Over the store’s 92-year history, its policy has been to close on Thanksgiving Day to allow employees to celebrate with family and friends.
According to a notice on the Publix corporate website, the stores close for just three days every year: Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
The notice reads: “Since our founding, we have been closed on these three holidays in observance of the holiday and to allow our associates time with family and friends.”
In addition to the closure, Publix modifies its hours around these holidays.
Publix stores close early on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day – the stores are typically open from 7am to 10pm for regular hours.
Different locations may have different amended hours with some stores closing at 7pm on Christmas Eve.
Shoppers concerned about their ability to do a last-minute shop should check with their local Publix to confirm their opening hours.
On New Year’s Eve will close at 9 pm and from 7 pm on New Year’s Day although last year some stores remained open until 8 pm and 9 pm.
Publix typically remains open on other federal holidays including Memorial Day and July Fourth, although store hours may vary.
