On Tuesday, Dec. 26, around 6:15 p.m., deputies received a call about a reckless driver near the intersection of Highway 90 and Highway 71.
The caller reported that a vehicle had been swerving in and out of traffic and had struck a light pole.
When deputies arrived, the driver, Daniel Scott Yant, was asleep at the wheel with the vehicle still in drive.
A medical evaluation was performed by EMS, and Yant was cleared of any medical issues.
Yant was then asked to perform field sobriety exercises but was unable to perform them safely. Yant admitted to law enforcement that he had drank some gin, and deputies found a half-empty bottle of gin in the vehicle.
Yant agreed to provide a breath sample and was transported to the Marianna Police Department.
The test showed that Yant’s Breath Alcohol Content (BAC) was 0.173 during the first sample, and 0.168 during the second sample, over twice the legal limit.
Yant was arrested and is being charged with Driving Under the Influence.
