On Thursday, Dec. 28, around 2:45 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two vehicle burglaries at a local establishment.
When deputies and investigators arrived on scene, they gathered surveillance footage of the suspect and learned that one of the items stolen was a handgun.
Shortly after the burglaries, the suspect attempted to use a victim’s stolen credit card at Walmart to make a large purchase of more than $1000.
The suspect was also captured on surveillance footage at Walmart using the stolen cards and was determined to be Travis Lawon Hope.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Hope is a convicted felon, with six prior felonies in Florida and one in Georgia.
Around 7:45 p.m., deputies saw Hope getting out of his vehicle at Malloy Plaza and attempted to make contact with him.
Hope resisted arrest with violence and a loaded firearm fell out of his jacket pocket. The firearm was determined to be the handgun stolen earlier in the day.
Hope was arrested and is being charged with two counts of Burglary of a Vehicle, Grand Theft of a Firearm, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest with Violence. Other charges are pending in this case.
